Local Auto Shipping

Local Auto Shipping is transporting your vehicle within the state that the vehicle is in. We have put together several local auto transport routes to help you move your car(s) fast and effectively. Using the internet to find an auto shipper can be emotionally draining. 90% of all online companies are brokers, the other 10% are hard to find auto shipping companies with no way for you the customer to know if they actually run the routes you need. In most cases they are going to broker the car to another transporter that runs these routes. We have taken the guessing out of finding a quality transporter.

National Auto Shipping

National Auto Shipping is transporting your vehicle within these States. We have put together several auto transport routes to help you move your car(s) fast and effectively. To Customer

Hi, my name is Frank Kimbrough from Frank's Transport Service which is based in Los Angeles, California.  I've been in business for over 20 years and have a record of providing dependable service at reasonable prices.

The intent of this memo is to briefly familiarize you with the ins and outs of the vehicle shipping process.   First of all, the majority of shippers DO NOT have their own fleet of trucks on standby, waiting for your car to become available for transport.  Instead, what they do is take your information and post it on a trucker web site to see if they can find someone to move your car at their indicated rate.  This rate is usually lower than it should be, due to the high competitive environment amongst brokers.  In other words, a minimum amount of money is required to move your car and if the rate is to low, you will be left out in the cold with no other recourse.  I can’t tell you how much work I get in expedited services because someone booked a car that would not be picked up by any truck due to the high cost of transporting the car at the lower posted rate.  The owner of the vehicle is usually left with no other choice but to pay twice the amount to expedite the service.  I understand these are hard times when a bargain is what we all seek, but the expression “You get what you pay for!” really applies here. Your vehicle is not one of your cheapest possessions; so be careful you’re not one of many who book your vehicle lower than the industry requires to move. Our rates are not the cheapest, but neither is our service and we will not leave you or your vehicle stranded.

We are NOT a broker and we operate our own trucks along with a close network of auto transport associates (see our contact page). What this means, is that we are in a position far better than a broker, and have direct control over what happens in the course of the transport of your vehicle. Broker’s actually call us to move your car and hike your price as much as $200.00 to pay their fee. Why pay the extra cost and risk the assurance of knowing your car will even be picked up as promised?

We also provide you with a quote that includes EVERYTHING - door to door with NO terminals. You will not come across hidden insurance or fuel surcharge fees with us. What we quote is what you pay. Your deposit is refundable as long as you cancel with enough lead time. This is unheard of with brokers.

How long does it take to ship my vehicle?
Shipping your vehicle within the United States:
Auto carriers pick up and deliver eight to ten vehicles at all times; weather & road conditions and other unforeseen factors make guaranteeing the delivery date impossible. Allow seven to fourteen days for the carriers to complete the trip on W-E runs; they can be quicker on other routes.

Shipping your vehicle overseas:
Most of the time we are able to give you expected arrival dates. However, sometimes due to; customs delays, ships canceling their departures, or in the event of lack of enough freight available for consolidated shipments delays can occur.

How many days in advance do I need to call?
Plan enough time for us to pick up your vehicle. Two weeks in advance is recommended. We will also deal with urgent situations on an individual basis, which will be given priority status. Please call us at (562) 324-7732 to discuss your needs.

How long does it take to have my car picked up?
Shipping within the United States:
We normally schedule shipping for your vehicle with a truck within two to three days of the scheduled pick-up date. We can always arrange to accommodate your schedule, but you may incur additional costs.

How far in advance are reservations accepted?
We accept reservations up to two months in advance.

How much does it cost to ship my car?
Prices are determined by mileage, vehicle size, and delivery location.

Do I need to pay in advance to ship my vehicle?
A deposit and a signed order are usually required before your vehicle is scheduled for shipping. However, there are exceptions. The balance must be paid upon the vehicle's delivery by Cash, Postal Money Order, or Cashier's Check.

What payment options do I have?
We accept Personal Checks, Cashier's Checks, Postal Money Orders, and Major Credit Cards (we require the customer's signature for credit card payment).

Can I pack my belongings in my car?
Shipping within the United States:
As of 1998 the Department of Transportation ruled that you may NOT load any items in a vehicle on auto carriers. All trucks are occasionally subject to be inspection, which includes unloading the vehicles off the truck and items contained from the vehicle. This risks leaving the items behind. Auto carriers are NOT licensed to carry household goods or personal items; these goods and items are not covered by the carrier's insurance. Any damage to your vehicle due to household goods' shifting or breaking is also not covered. Personal belongings left in the vehicle are shipped strictly at the owner's risk. Carriers will not inventory any belongings left in the vehicle and will assume no responsibility. Also, items packed in the vehicle add weight and may cause damage to the exhaust system or suspension of the vehicle.

For shipping overseas, go to question 16

Is my vehicle insured during transit?
Shipping within the United States:
Your vehicle is insured for its Blue Book value during transit on the truck. Total loss or minor external body damage does not include glass or motor/undercarriages. Classic vehicles should have an updated appraisal for insurance purposes.

For shipping overseas, go to question 17

Will you ship my car if it's inoperable?
We will transport your vehicle if it is inoperable (Not Wrecked) at an additional fee. Vehicle tires must be inflated and able to roll, and the car must have emergency brakes.

What if I am unavailable to pick up the car?
Shipping within the United States:
Have an alternative party, like a friend or relative, sign on your behalf. If you are not available, your vehicle may go to a terminal for you to pickup.

For shipping overseas:
You can designate any person to pick up the vehicle but you must advise us so that we can enter his or her name as the receiver. They will be required to identify themselves and produce the Title of Ownership or Letter of Permission to ship the vehicle.

What if my location is inaccessible to the truck?
Shipping within the United States:
Most trucks are 75 feet long and very wide, which makes it impossible to reach most residential areas due to narrow roads, trees, power lines, city ordinances, and other road factors. The driver will attempt to get as close as possible to the delivery location, or we will arrange a convenient location, like a shopping center or major street crossing, to pick up or deliver your vehicle.

How much gasoline should I leave in the tank?
Whatever is in the tank will be acceptable, except when the vehicle is shipped to Hawaii; then it is recommended the tank should be as low as possible.

What is a roll-on, roll-off vessel?
This is a large vessel, which carries all vehicles that have wheels. The vehicles are stored below deck, not open to the elements. This method is the preferred method of shipping for new vehicle manufacturers.

What are the port and clearance charges?
These are offloading and documentation fees are charged by the destination country. Each country differs. Container offloading fees are usually double that of roll-on roll-off fees.

Can I send my belongings when I ship overseas?
If you are shipping your vehicle in a shared container you will be permitted to pack goods into the car. These goods are sent under your own risk and cannot be insured. If you ship your vehicle in a container on its own you can pack the vehicle and the container with your goods, which can be insured.

Do we provide marine insurance?
Yes, we do. There are two types of Insurance.

a. Total Loss:
You will be covered for the full amount that you choose to insure for with zero deductible. In the event of the boat sinking, theft of the vehicle at the ports on either end or any permanent loss to the vehicle while in our possession. Note: This does not cover any minor damage, which is calculated as 1.5% of the value you wish to insure.
COST: 1.5% of the value that you wish to insure the vehicle.

b. Full Coverage:
This covers you against the above and any dents or damage or loss to part of the vehicle while in our possession. This does cost more and has a deductible of $500.00.
COST: 2.5% of the value that you wish to insure the vehicle.

What is required before I ship my motorcycle?
Make sure your motorcycle is within 96" long and 40" wide. If your motorcycle is not within these dimensions, then please call our office so we can provide proper shipping. You need to know the weight of your motorcycle; if you don't, then please click here. You also need to completely drain all fuel from the tank, unlock the steering, remove the keys, fold in the mirrors (if possible), and remove all items from the saddle bags and glove box. DO NOT send the keys or important documents with your motorcycle. We recommend you send them with an overnight courier. The driver will not pick up or deliver the keys and documents.

FREQUENTLY ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT SHIPPING YOUR VEHICLE WORLD WIDE

1) What are the port and clearance charges?  These are offloading and documentation fees are charged by the destination country. Each country differs. Container offloading fees are usually double that of roll-on roll-off fees.

2) Will anybody assist me when my vehicle arrives?   Yes, we have clearing agents at all ports that can assist you but you can do the clearing yourself if you choose.

3) Do I need a driver’s license in a country?  You should get an International Driver's License from the AAA Automobile Association in your area; however, your American Driver's License will suffice in Europe. You can drive on your American plates in a foreign country until they expire, when you will be required to renew your plates in the country of residence.

4) Do I need insurance to travel on the roads in foreign countries?  Yes. Insurance can be bought at the port of destination or you can arrange it prior to picking up your vehicle with an insurance company of your choice

5) Can anyone pick up my vehicle?  You can designate any person to pick up the vehicle but you must advise us so we can enter his or her name as the receiver. They will be required to identify themselves.

6) Do we provide Marine insurance?  Yes.  Insurance is 2% value of the vehicle. There are two options: A. Total Loss? Available to all shipments.  Coverage of this is: fire, theft or loss only.  A total value must be placed on the shipment -$1000.00 deductible per policy. B. Automobile- All Risk’s Coverage excluding-Marring, denting, chipping and scratching on vehicles, unless the affected part cannot be repaired and must be replaced.  Major damage would be included in this section- $1000.00 deductible.

7) Can I load my car with personal possessions? Yes.  If you are shipping your vehicle in a shared container or on it own you will be permitted to pack goods into the car only. These goods are sent under your own risk and cannot be insured.
The only time your goods are covered with insurance is when our company packs the container.

8) Can bad weather affect the condition of my vehicle?  Shipping containers, which are not air tight, are subject to changing weather patterns. This can result in the growth of moss on your upholstery. To avoid this, we suggest that you cover your seats with a sheet or cloth.

9) Are you able to guarantee delivery dates?  ARRIVAL TIMES ARE NEVER GUARANTEED.  Most of the time we are able to give you expected arrival dates. However, sometimes due to; customs delays, ships canceling their departures, or in the event of lack of enough freight available for consolidated shipments delays can occur.

10) Do I pay import duties and sale taxes?  Please note that returning citizens or foreign buyers may be subject to import duties and taxes. Each and every country has different laws so we urge you to contact the embassy of the respective country to clarify the matter.

11) What is roll on roll off?  The vehicles are stored below deck, not open to the elements. This method is much cheaper then a container.  Please note, roll on roll off is not offered to all countries.

12) How much gas should be left in the vehicle?  Please keep your gas tank at 1/4 of a tank or less. For safety, full tanks will be emptied at your cost.

13) What is a custom clearance broker?  A customs clearance broker is capable of passing your vehicle through the formalities of the country of destination. We clear customs prior to your vehicle loading onto the vessel.

When transporting your vehicle into Canada, you need a Custom Clearance Broker at the border to clear title, taxes and all duties owed on the vehicle.

We can delivery your vehicle to a Bonded Warehouse.  Customer Service will call you for pick up when your vehicle is ready.  Upon pick up all duty and import taxes are due.
